For some time now, it has been common to use the Long Life oil, i. e. an oil that should retain its properties for at least 30,000 kilometres (by comparison, in older power units, producers usually recommended changing oil every 15,000 kilometres).
We are seeing a similar trend with filters and the owner’s manual says more and more frequently that we should change the air filter every 60,000 kilometres, which in case of a supercharged engine is definitely a bad idea. Good filtration is the basis for the proper functioning of the drive unit, but not only, as it affects also the drivetrain components.
In case of supercharged engines, specialists recommend changing oil and filter at most every 15,000 and in extreme cases even more frequently. Other filters should be changed too, for each of them plays a very important role.
